Those living in and around surrounding communities who are looking for things to do in Vail in the Summer of 2012 will not have to look far. Capitol recording artist and country music star, Darius Rucker, will show his support for The Steadman Philippon Research Institute this July as he returns to headline the Institute’s annual summer fundraising concert. Of all 2012 Darius Rucker concerts, this one will be marked with a special meaning as all proceeds of the concert will go to benefit ongoing orthopedic research including new initiatives towards joint preservation, joint restoration, the treatment for osteoarthritis, and youth sports prevention.
The Fourth of July in Colorado marks a special time for locals who embrace and frequent outdoor concerts. To add to the already list of popular venues set for the 2012 Darius Rucker concerts line-up, The Steadman Philippon Research Institute’s annual fundraising event is set to take place Thursday, July 5th at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater in Vail, CO.
Tickets for the “Rock the Research” concert and VIP event are on sale now! Last year’s event was highly successful with a sold out attendance; John McMurty, Vice President of Program Development for The Institute believes this year’s concert will be as successful. “Last year’s event attracted Darius’ fans from all of Vail’s surrounding communities and the Denver area who were anxious for the rare opportunity to see this superstar in such an intimate venue. We believe this year will bring similar crowds as people who look for things to do in Vail in the Summer share a blend of love for Darius’ music and an interest in orthopedic medicine. We are grateful to have him join us again for the third year as he exemplifies the return to the active lifestyle which our research offers patients who suffer from orthopaedic injuries and conditions”
Attendees of “Rock the Research” may purchase lawn or pavilion seats. Those who purchase VIP tickets will also enjoy pre-concert hors d’oeuvres and a sit-down dinner with a live auction under a canopy in the beautiful Betty Ford Garden immediately following the concert.
McMurty continues by saying, “As a former patient of Dr. Steadman, Darius understands the important role that the Steadman Philippon Research Institute plays in validating the leading-edge treatments developed by its associated physicians.”

About Darius Rucker:
Darius Rucker has again topped the charts with the release of his sophomore country album, Charleston, SC 1966, on Capitol Records Nashville. Since it’s October 2010 debut, Charleston, SC 1966 has garnered two #1 hits with “Come Back Song” and “This.” USA Today raved, "Rucker has made a fine-sounding country album, full of singable choruses, bittersweet fiddle and steel, and guitars with bottomless twang," and Rolling Stone said, “On his Nashville debut, Rucker's rich baritone, sentimental ballads and bright hooks made him the most successful African-American country singer since Charley Pride. Rucker amps up that formula on album number two." The debut in referral is his chart-topping 2008 release, Learn To Live – an album that produced three consecutive No. 1 singles and Top 5 smash, “History In The Making.” Darius is currently a special guest on Lady Antebellum’s Own The Night Tour and working on his third solo country album.
