Michelle Nutescu,
MS
Research Engineer
Michelle Andreea Nutescu is a Research Engineer at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute (SPRI), where her work focuses on orthopaedic biomechanics, human movement analysis and translational musculoskeletal research. She earned her Master of Engineering in Translational Orthopaedic Device Engineering from Rowan University and her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), where she was a member of their NCAA Division I women's ice hockey team.
Michelle's research integrates experimental biomechanics, modeling, motion analysis and clinical research to investigate injury mechanisms, bone mechanics, and musculoskeletal health. She has collaborated with multidisciplinary teams of orthopaedic surgeons, engineers and scientists on projects involving ACL injuries, neuromuscular control, orthopaedic device development and bone biomechanics. Her work has resulted in peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national scientific conferences, including the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA), and Pediatric Research in Sports Medicine (PRiSM).
Michelle is the recipient of the AAP Young Investigator Award, Best Design Award for her engineering capstone project and is a Katz and Manne Research Scholar at the Stanley Manne Children's Research Institute. Drawing on both her research experience and background as a former Division I ice hockey player, she is passionate about advancing biomechanical research that improves injury prevention, rehabilitation, athletic performance, and long-term musculoskeletal health.
During her free time, Michelle enjoys coaching the next generation of hockey players and spending time outdoors hiking, skiing, and biking.
