Alex Brady

Manager Robotics & Engineer

Alex Brady is a mechanical engineer with a specialty in robotics and controls and was recruited to join the Steadman Philippon Research Institute (SPRI) as a Robotics Engineer. His goal is to apply his knowledge of robotic systems to aid clinicians in the testing and development of new surgical procedures. His work will be focused on programming our 6R KUKA robotic arm to be used as a testing device for biomedical research.

Alex has a longstanding interest in robotics and is happy to be a part of the SPRI team where his passion can be applied to making a difference in patient’s lives. “It’s amazing how quickly the studies we conduct in the lab can influence the surgical procedures in the clinic. There’s nothing like seeing your research have a positive impact on someone’s well-being; it makes working with the robot even more motivating.” Alex is also excited to learn more about human anatomy and orthopaedics. He said, “My focus used to be solely on machines; however, as I enter the exciting field of biomechanics, I’m eager to learn more. I think it’s important to step outside one’s comfort zone, and being at the intersection of two fields is a great way to do just that.”

Alex has always been mechanically inclined and chose Mechanical Engineering as a major when he studied at INSA de Lyon in France. His passion for robotics truly flourished when he pursued his Master’s of Mechanical Engineering degree at Georgia Tech. He conducted research in the BioRobotics and Human Modeling lab, working on a human power amplification project for percussive instruments. He was also involved in other mechatronics and controls projects, leading him to pursue a career in the field of BioRobotics.

In his free time, Alex loves to play music with friends, hike, backpack and climb. He has found that it is easy to meet like-minded people in the valley and is looking forward to exploring the beautiful Colorado Mountains with them.
