John McMurtry

Director of Development

John McMurtry brings a background in exercise science and business to the Institute. John served as Head Technical Coach, Director of Athlete Development, and Alpine Director for the US Ski and Olympic Teams during the most successful period in the team's history.  He first worked with Dr. Steadman in South Lake Tahoe developing fitness and rehabilitation protocols for Dr. Steadman's patients.

In 1995, John was inducted into the Colorado Ski Hall of Fame. This was followed by his induction into the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame in 2015.  He holds a Bachelor's degree in political science as well as a Master's Degree in exercise science from the University of Denver. He also holds an MBA from Westminster College of Salt Lake City. McMurtry was a member of the Vail-Eagle Valley Rotary Club, where he has served as both a board member and president.

He has also served as Chairman of the Charitable Foundation of the Rotary Club of Eagle-Vail Valley and received the Distinguished President citation from Rotary International in 2002. McMurtry' s other board of director services include The International Skiing History Association, The Rocky Mountain Division of the United States Ski and Snowboard Association, the Vail Valley Soccer Club, and the Colorado Ski and Snowboard Museum /Hall of Fame.
