David Civitarese

Surgical Skills Lab Coordinator

David Civitarese, BA, graduated with a Physics Degree in 2012. As a native of Calgary, Alberta, he was recruited to play NCAA Division I Ice Hockey for the Colorado College Tigers where he completed his physics and pre-medicine studies. He first joined the Steadman Philippon Research Institute as a temporary Summer Research Fellow in 2011. David helped to publish studies related to lower body sports medicine injuries before returning to Colorado College to complete his degree. Following graduation, he played professional ice hockey with the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League and the Reading Royals of the East Coast Hockey League. He continued to pursue his passion for medical studies in parallel with his athletic endeavors by volunteering with The Reading Hospital’s Emergency Department’s Quality Control division, where his work helped to update sepsis management protocols. While still remaining involved with the ongoing research at SPRI, David pursued his hockey career in Kitzbühel, Austria. In June 2014, David decided to hang up his skates to in favor of a career in the medical field and returned to SPRI as a Biomedical Engineering Research Assistant. He published several more studies related to the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of sports medicine injuries. In April 2015, David took on a new position with SPRI as the Surgical Skills Lab Coordinator. He is excited for his educational role with the Sports Medicine Fellows program where he can learn among many talented physicians. Additionally, he values the opportunity to foster industry relationships with SPRI’s many supporters.
