Jonny Layne, MD joined SPRI in Spring 2023. His research at SPRI focuses on bench-to-bedside biomedical innovation for regenerative, personalized therapies used in various musculoskeletal conditions. He helps manage several aspects of ongoing research projects and clinical trials. He enjoys a wide range of responsibilities including meticulous lab work, patient screening/consenting, manuscript writing, etc. As the first doctor in his family, Jonny feels extremely honored to work with SPRI and his incredible mentor, Chelsea Bahney, PhD, in the development of novel therapeutic strategies for fracture repair and osteoarthritis inhibition.

He played professionally for the Colorado Raptors for one season in the MLR before deciding to hang up the boots, following an injury, to focus on a career in orthopaedic surgery. Jonny earned his MD from the University of Colorado School of Medicine in 2023 where he participated in and published outcomes-based research with CU’s Departments of Hand and Spine Surgery. His hobbies include skiing, coaching/mentoring, songwriting, backpacking through the Rockies, and spending time with his fiancé, Maggie, and their rescue-pup, Charlotte.
