Kimi Dahl,

MSc

Research Scientist

Kimi Dahl was recruited by the Steadman Philippon Research Institute (SPRI) as a Research Scientist for the Department of BioMedical Engineering. She is excited to combine her experience in 3D motion analysis and biomechanics testing with the specialized equipment utilized at SPRI to create a more complete picture of how the human body both recovers and performs.

Kimi earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA and graduated Summa Cum Laude as part of the Honors Program. During her senior year she received the Outstanding Exercise Science Student of the Year Award. Each year this award is presented to one student in the Exercise Science program and is determined by faculty vote based on academic success and overall contribution to the program. At Liberty she got her first taste for research while writing a Senior Honors Thesis and presenting at the Southeast ACSM conference.

For her graduate studies, Kimi earned a Master’s of Science in Biomechanics from Ball State University in Indiana. During her time at Ball State, Kimi honed her skills in various biomechanical testing techniques in conjunction with 3D motion analysis. As a graduate assistant, she participated in many lab studies focusing on the clinical aspect of biomechanics in relation to sports performance and injury mechanics. Kimi’s thesis evaluated the postural and load distribution changes between two styles of backpacks and won the Keys/Litten/Smith Award at Ball State’s Student Research Symposium. The results of her study may provide justification for reconsideration of backpack design with regard to load placement.

As an Oregon native, Kimi is ecstatic to be back in the western U.S. and living in the mountains of Vail. She enjoys playing sand volleyball and exploring Colorado while hiking and camping.
