Deputy Director | Sr. Engineer/Scientist

Travis Turnbull is a mechanical engineer with a passion for orthopaedic research and was recruited to join the Steadman Philippon Research Institute (SPRI) in 2013. He proudly serves as the Deputy Director of the Department of BioMedical Engineering and also enjoys a strong presence in hands-on research activities as Sr. Engineer/Scientist. His diverse set of skills affords him the ability to creatively approach and solve problems associated with the improvement and/or rehabilitation of the musculoskeletal system. Dr. Turnbull and his colleagues in the BME Department study current and emerging clinical questions/challenges by conducting high-quality, translational research that informs the domestic and international orthopaedic sports medicine communities.

Dr. Turnbull earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Texas Tech University and graduated Summa Cum Laude with Highest Honors. He completed graduate studies while conducting biomechanics research in the Mechanical Engineering PhD program at the University of Notre Dame. He is blessed with a beautiful wife and two sons and the opportunity to live, work, and play in the Rocky Mountains.
