Monica grew up on Grosse Ile, an island between the USA and Canada in Michigan. Her hobbies include water sports, winter sports, hiking, home improvements, and cooking. She completed her undergraduate education at Michigan State University with a major in Human Physiology and specialization in Bioethics. From middle school through her time at Michigan State, she was a competitive rower. She was an MSU team captain and competed at the NCAA National Rowing Championships in the Varsity 8+. After graduating at the top of the entire athletic department at MSU, she attended medical school at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. She was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Monica, her husband Jarin, and their German Shorthaired Pointer Atlas then moved to Charlottesville for residency at the University of Virginia. She was recognized as orthopedic surgery resident of the year in 2022. She was also head team physician for the Monticello Mustangs football team, a local high-school team, throughout residency training. Monica and Jarin recently welcomed their daughter, Hazel Mae. They are looking forward to exploring all the outdoor adventures the Vail Valley has to offer. Monica is incredibly honored for the opportunity to train with the faculty at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute. She looks forward to forming lifelong connections with her co-fellows, faculty, and staff while there.
Monica Arney, MD

Mikalyn DeFoor, MD
Residency: San Antonio Military Medical Center/Brooke Army Medical Center

Born in Gainesville, Georgia, Dr. DeFoor was raised with a twin brother with an equal drive for competition and team sports. She played Women’s Basketball at Georgia College, where she also earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. She then attended medical school at the Medical College of Georgia, where she commissioned into the United States Air Force under the Health Professions Scholarship Program. She completed an active-duty residency at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, the only Level I Trauma Center in the Department of Defense, where she continued to discover her passion in the role of a Team Physician by caring for a distinct group of warrior athletes requiring an elite level of athletic performance to protect and serve our country. While in residency, she served several extracurricular roles including leadership positions on the AAOS Resident Assembly (Chair), Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons Board of Directors and American Orthopaedic Association Emerging Leaders Program. Authoring over 40 peer-reviewed publications in residency, her research interests included shoulder instability and anterior cruciate ligament injuries, specifically in the setting of non-battle related injuries and military readiness. Post-fellowship, she will return to the military for six additional active-duty years of service. Outside of medicine, Dr. DeFoor’s interests include pickup basketball, hiking and shopping. Dr. DeFoor is thrilled to start the next chapter of her career in Vail for the opportunity to live up to the privilege and honor of being part of the rich history, comradery and excellence of the Steadman Philippon family.
Shane Korber, MD
Residency: University of Southern California

Shane Korber grew up in Orange County, California before attending Georgetown University where he majored in Human Science. During his collegiate studies he competed in NCAA Division I tennis, earning All-Academic Big East honors and captaining the team in his senior year. With an early interest in sports medicine, he scribed for an orthopaedic practice before leaving the D.C. area. Shane then pursued a medical degree at the University of Southern California. At USC, he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society and graduated with a “Highest Distinction” honor - awarded to the top 6% of the class for consistent academic and clinical excellence throughout all four years. Shane elected to continue his clinical training at USC with an orthopaedic surgical residency. During residency, he authored numerous papers and served as a team physician for many of the local Los Angeles high schools. Shane is honored to have the opportunity to train under leading experts at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute. An avid skier, Shane and his wife Kara are thrilled to spend a year exploring Vail and the Rocky Mountains. They look forward to putting their one-year-old daughter, Lucy, on skis for the first time.
Devin Leland, MD
Residency: Mayo Clinic

Devin was born and raised on an acreage in small town Iowa. He attended Drake University for undergraduate on a golf scholarship, eventually going on to medical school at Creighton University in Omaha, NE. While in medical school, Devin pursued a research year with the Orthopedic Sports department at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. This not only provided a fantastic opportunity for growing a passion for orthopedic research but also resulted in the opportunity to complete his residency training at the Mayo Clinic. While in residency, Devin provided physician sideline coverage for the Minnesota High School state basketball tournaments, Rochester Grizzlies and Austin Bruins Hockey teams, and several local high schools. Devin is honored to continue his Orthopedic training
with a fellowship year at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute. This year will undoubtedly provide an unparalleled foundation for a fulfilling career in Orthopedic sports surgery. His family includes his wife Sierra, daughter Navy (5 years), and daughter Via (1 year). Devin and Sierra love to ski, and they are very excited to get Navy and Via on skis for the first time. Charles ‘Chuck’ Lin, MD, MS
Residency: NYU Langone Health

Charles was born in Massachusetts and raised in Northern California. He attended Princeton University, where he earned a degree in Chemical and Biological Engineering and was a four-year letter winner on the varsity soccer team and received the Robert Hauter Myslik Memorial Award. He went on to earn his medical degree at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine, graduating as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and completing a Master’s in Basic and Translational Science. Following medical school, Charles pursued his orthopedic surgery residency at the NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital, where he was honored with the Nate Bondi, MD Award and selected as an Executive Chief Resident. His research interests are primarily focused on biomechanics, and he has published numerous articles related to knee and shoulder kinematics. Charles is honored to continue his training at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute. He will be moving to Vail with his wife, Caroline, and their daughter, Taylor. In his free time, he enjoys soccer, kung fu, snowboarding, and exploring the outdoors. He looks forward to making the most of all that Vail Valley has to offer.
Lucy Meyer, MD
Residency: Duke University

Lucy Meyer was born and raised in St. Paul, MN. She attended Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA where she earned her undergraduate degree in Human Biology and was on the gymnastics team. Following her undergraduate education, she attended Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA. She then completed her residency training at Duke University in Durham, NC. During her time at Duke, she provided on-field physician coverage for a number of athletic teams including local high schools, NCCU athletics, Duke University Volleyball, Football, and Men’s Basketball. She was recognized as the Orthopaedic Surgery Resident of the Year in 2023 and was nominated for the American Orthopedic Society’s C. McCollister Evarts Resident Leadership Forum. Lucy is incredibly honored to continue her training as a fellow at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute. She enjoys
skiing/snowboarding, spending time outdoors and cheering on local Minnesota sports teams. She is excited to move to Vail this year and looks forward to every adventure that the Colorado high country has to offer.

Brendon Mitchell, MD
Residency: University of California San Diego

Brendon is from Briarcliff Manor, New York. He completed his undergraduate education at Colgate University, where he met his wife, Cara, a middle school teacher. He then attended the University of Florida College of Medicine (fulfilling his lifelong Gator fandom), during which he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed his residency at the University of California, San Diego. During his tenure at UCSD, he was selected by his peers as Administrative Chief Resident and twice won the California Orthopaedic Association (COA) Resident Paper Contest. One of his highlights from residency training was volunteering as head team physician for the Lincoln Hornets, a local highschool team. Because of the relationships he developed with players, coaches, community members, and teachers during this experience, he founded an outreach program, BONE Academy, which seeks to expose underprivileged high school students to careers in orthopedics. The program has worked with over 800 high school students and expanded with five chapters across the country. Before beginning his training in Vail, Brendon completed a pediatric fellowship at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Brendon will be moving to Vail with his wife, their three children, and dog. Brendon is thrilled for the opportunity to train at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute, and the entire family is excited for a year in the mountains after their city year in Philly.
Colby Wollenman, MD
Residency: Vanderbilt University

A native of Sheridan, Wyoming, Colby first discovered his passion for medicine while frequently assisting his father, an equine veterinarian and lameness specialist. He fondly recalls early experiences helping to suture horses and trotting them for joint evaluations—moments that sparked a lasting interest in musculoskeletal care. A multisport athlete throughout high school, Colby went on to attend Michigan State University for his undergraduate studies, where he walked on to the basketball team and played for five years, contributing to several nationally ranked teams and culminating in a Final Four appearance in 2015. He then earned his medical degree from Vanderbilt University, where under the mentorship of Dr. Jon Schoenecker, he engaged in orthopaedic research ranging from basic science in immunocoagulopathy to clinical studies in pediatric pathology. He remained at Vanderbilt for his orthopaedic surgery residency, where he participated in athletic coverage from high school to professional level. During residency, he also led multiple research projects focused on upper extremity pathology, resulting in several peer-reviewed publications. Colby is incredibly honored to continue his training at the renowned Steadman Philippon Research Institute and looks forward to a year of professional growth and adventure in the Vail Valley alongside his significant other, Allie.
Elise Grzeskiewicz, MD
Residency: The Ohio State University

Elise was born and raised in Colden, New York with her sister Megan. She was a competitive swimmer for over 10 years and track athlete through high school. She attended the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) for undergrad, where she played Ultimate Frisbee for RIT as well as the City of Rochester. While pursuing a major in Biomedical Sciences, she also received a minor in Exercise Science, graduating Summa Cum Laude with Honors. She returned to Buffalo and received her MD at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. During her medical school career, she participated in a medical mission trip to Haiti, co-managed a free clinic for the underserved, was nominated for the Gold Humanism Honor Society and completed her first full marathon. Elise matched into Orthopaedic Surgery residency at THE Ohio State University, where her mentors nurtured her passion for the field of Foot and Ankle Surgery. During her time in Columbus, Elise participated in many medical student educational experiences, gave guest lectures, served as Administrative Chief resident and became a Buckeye fan. Elise is honored to live out her dream of training at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute. Elise, her fiancé Robert and their Australian Shepherd Nigel are excited to explore Colorado and enjoy the outdoors.
Patrick Young, MD
Residency: University of Southern Alabama

Patrick is from Birmingham, Alabama and graduated from Hewitt-Trussville High School where he was a three-sport athlete. He then attended Auburn University on a full academic scholarship and graduated with honors with a degree in Biomedical Sciences. During his undergraduate studies, he was a letterman for the Auburn football team and member of the 2013 SEC Championship team. He was also named a Rhodes Scholar semifinalist and was the Auburn University Brad Davis Community Service Leader of the Year. He earned his medical degree from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. During medical school, he completed research in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and earned first place honors at the Medical Association of the State of Alabama Research Symposium for his work. Patrick subsequently completed his orthopedic surgery residency at USA Health in Mobile, Alabama. During his residency he gained an interest in spine surgery under the mentorship of Dr. Richard Menger and was named a Todd J. Albert Scholar for his work on adult spinal deformity surgery. Outside of medicine, he enjoys golf, exercising, snowboarding and spending time in the great outdoors. He and his wife (Lucy), daughter (Kate) and dog (Galley) are looking forward to moving out West to train at the world-renowned Steadman Clinic.
